Harddisk/Floppy disk

Question:

Can I recover data from a floppy or a Zip disk that was "Quick Formatted" in Windows?

Answer:

Unlike a Standard Format (or DOS' FORMAT command), "Quick Formatting" media will only erase the file information from the disk. The actual file data will remain on the media after a quick format, and in most cases is easily recoverable.

Procedure:

To find deleted files after a quick format, follow these steps:

  • Click File and choose Open....
  • Click on the Logical Drive Tab and choose the affected drive.
  • Click OK.
  • On the Select Cluster range to search dialog box, click OK. This is usually a good choice as the entire media will be scanned. If you have other preferences select the range accordingly.
  • After the cluster scan is finished, you should be able to find the file(s) under the Lost Files folder.
